Angling for Cheating in Poker

Most of the problems that appear at the poker table have something to with acts that are out turn. Players tend to fold, bet, or check early. Some of the players act early by accident or honest mistake. But some intent to cheat.

Yes, some players who act out turn purposely act untimely to cheat. They are basically involved with a cheating technique called Angling. Cheaters who are believed using the said technique tend to act out of turn to manipulate other players and the game in general.

Two Ways Angling Takes Place

Angling takes place in two ways. Typically in:

a player’s act of folding out of turn by his or her appearance at the table as if he or she is going to fold his or her hand, or actually folding his or her hand, and then reclaiming it when the action gets to him or her.

a player’s act of betting out of turn by his or her appearance at the table that he or she is on his or her way to make a bet and then later denies his or her possible bet when the action reaches him or her.

Getting Rid of Cheaters Using Angling

Nowadays, Angling is something not directly against the rules considering new players tend to angle without any intention to cheat. Also, some players only seem to angle rarely. But there are some who angle on a consistent basis all for the purpose of cheating. For sure you won’t like the idea of playing against them for long and would like to just get rid of them at all means. Although Angling is typically not a serious offense or a house rule violation, you can still try to tell the dealer or floor manager about such players who take advantage to angle. You may benefit from it but of course there’s no assurance that you’d get rid of them at the table.
