Managing Bankroll Effectively
So now you are prepared to play your first ever poker game for real money. If you have read the recent articles we have here, most likely, you feel prepared. Well, you might already have gained knowledge on how to move money around the table, deposit money to your poker account as well as withdraw money. Yes, these are some of the essential things you basically have to know so you can start playing poker for real money. But there are more important things that you still need to know. These things basically have something to do with effective bankroll management.
Well, there is no exact way as to how you can manage your bankroll effectively. But there are some ways you can do, or preventive measures you can do that can somehow help you in the long run, manage your own bankroll effectively.
Basically, as a beginner, you must first try very low limit games so you can get a feel for the games and to minimize losses. This can be the very first thing you can do if you later on want to succeed in managing your bankroll effectively. Never grossly underestimate the bankroll needed to play at certain limits especially those high limits.
Then, never treat your bankroll like a tournament buy-in. As soon as you have played for a couple of weeks and are at break-even or are up a little bit at one limit, never think of going next to a higher limit with your entire bankroll as you most likely will lose all the money you have. Remember that moving on to a higher limit early will just give too much pressure on your bankroll and on you as well as the player who will have to adopt different playing styles to beat stronger players.
At best, as a beginner, you must play at reasonable limits for at least 200 hours of play during which you’re either doing well or at least not losing a lot. Give yourself enough time to prepare for the harder challenges of high limit games. It’s best to take one step at a time.
Above all, so you can effectively manage your bankroll and not lose it so early, always play for fun and arm yourself with basic strategies. This will give you greater chances of making it in poker.
